Joe and Jill Biden Pay Sober Visit to Queen Elizabeth’s Coffin Before Funeral

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden are paying their respects to Queen Elizabeth ahead of Monday’s state funeral for the late monarch.

On Sunday, the Bidens visited Queen Elizabeth’s coffin as it lay in state inside Westminster Hall in London.

Hundreds of thousands of people have joined the coffin of the late monarch since Wednesday. On Friday, the Queen’s four children – King Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward – held a solemn vigil around their mother’s coffin. On Saturday, the Queen’s grandchildren – including Prince William and Prince Harry – did the same.

The Bidens signed the official condolence book for Her Majesty at the historic Lancaster House near Buckingham Palace.

The president of the United States and the first lady will join King Charles and other leaders, dignitaries and royals from around the world for a Palace reception on Sunday evening.

On Thursday, the president and first lady visited the British Embassy in Washington, DC, to pay their respects to the Queen and sign her book of condolences. “She was a wonderful woman. I’m so glad to have met her.”

After the Queen’s death, the couple said in a statement, in part: “We send our heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family, who are mourning not only their Queen, but their dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. in the pages of British history, and in the story of our world.”

The Bidens will be the only US delegates to attend Monday’s funeral.

In the past, former presidents of the United States have been present at significant historical events like this, which has led some to wonder why the White House has not been given an open invitation to correct other US leaders.
